Ethanol is an alcohol-based biofuel produced from plant-based raw materials and is widely used as a cleaner renewable fuel by blending with petrol to reduce vehicular emissions and improve fuel efficiency.
Grain-based ethanol distilleries primarily utilise maize, sorghum, broken rice, and other surplus or damaged grains. Starch in the grains is converted into fermentable sugars, which are then fermented and distilled to produce ethanol.
Grain-based ethanol plays a critical role in India’s Ethanol Blending Program (EBP) by supporting sugar-based supplies, ensuring year-around ethanol availability, reducing carbon emissions, strenthening energy security, and supporting farmers and rural economy.
Maize DDGS is a co-product of ethanol production plants that use corn for manufacturing. Corn Dried Distillers Grains with Soluble (DDGS) is one of the popular, affordable, and suitable alternative food ingredients for the cattle and poultry diet. It is enriched with high protein, and lysine content and has high energy. Corn DDGS has a high rate of digestibility which makes it an ideal substitute for traditional feed sources such as soybean meal, corn, and rapeseed meal among others.
Rice DDGS or Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles are the best alternative protein in the cattle, aqua, and poultry feed industry. Rice DDGS is a by-product of ethanol production in a distillery in which rice is used as a raw material. During alcohol formation, starch is fermented to produce ethyl alcohol. The residual component of grain is a protein that results in DDGS. Traditional feed sources such as soybean meal, corn, and rapeseed meal among others.
